Chaos Attraction

The Search Engine Dirty Bingo Entry

2003-03-25, 5:49 p.m.

I have been keeping track of the peppers I've gotten in e-mail since we got the new Eudora. I have since discovered that this program works rather er, screwily:

(a) NO e-mail gets just one pepper or three peppers, despite what it says in the help section.

(b) "want a big penis" and "penis enlargement pills" get 2 peppers, while "www.beefupyourpenis.com", "20 inch cocks" and "monster dongs" got no peppers.

(c) "fetish, golden showers," and "S&M" got 2 peppers, "cum, porn, and live sex shows" did not get any.

(d) A "horrorscope" that I got in e-mail that had no swearing or naughty words, just insults and jokes, got 2 peppers, while my own notify list for the weblog, where I mentioned penises and porn stars, got no peppers at all.

Okay, this thing makes no sense at all in how it works. What on earth is it using for criteria here?

And speaking of dirtyness in e-mail, I decided to share with you my totals of spam that I got over the 3-day weekend.

* Total number of cigarettes, get your own domain, life insurance, weight loss while sleeping, Napster clone, gas, DVD burner, printer cartridges, "hot women want you", and porn spam= 1 apiece.

* Total number of digital cable spams= 2

* Total number of "get a college degree" (spelled "deg-ree" once) spams= 3 Ah, the irony.

* Total number of "anti-aging formula" spams= 3

* Total number of mortgage spams= 4

* Total number of Norton and other virus protection product spams= 8.

* Total number of Viagra/Viagra-esque clone products and other prescriptions spams= 9 (Prescriptions with no Viagra mentioned in the spam= 1)

* Total number of penis enlargement spams- 12

Man, I'm so tired of hearing about how small my penis is and how I will never catch any ladies without enlarging it by 3 more inches. Yes, I know my penis is small, dammit! Stop bugging me about it all the time! Waaaah!

I've about decided to go get my own domain and actually shell out for an official page. If I can just figure out a great domain name to get, anyway.

I think I'll probably leave the journal where it is (no major need to mess with it, I think), but I'd like a place to be able to post and leave pictures about, and put anything funny I happen to come up with (like the Star Wars stuff), and dare I say it, I should probably put the weblog on another page. I like Pitas quite a bit, but it is annoying to not be able to mess with the archives on it. Anyone who's ever tried to do a search on the page will find that my really old archives are completely befucked because I was using my Tripod site to post backgrounds, and now you can't read the old pages at all. (Plus Pitas tends to start losing links if you forgot and added like 100/page like I tend to do.) I should probably figure out that whole Blogger/Moveable Type thing (eek) and switch. Plus I'd like a space to be available for whatever I want to use it for. Should I ever, say, get off my ass and found a webzine or online business, then I would have somewhere to stash it. And hell, Dave can even have some space too (heh).

If I can just figure out a name that works for all of the above, that is...

I have been kind of feeling the urge to do at least semi-professional writing again. I miss writing for a place that got regular readers and whatnot, and am starting to eye various webzines and feel jealous of their ubercool staffs. Not that I am ubercool, mind you (quite the opposite), but I do miss that kind of thing. Though if I ever start my own, it'll probably be my writing alone. I don't think I could really scrape up a "staff" per se, and don't really know who would be interested in doing regular non-paid work just to have stuff to show off online (or whatever). I knew this one girl a few years ago that had an incredibly cool idea for a weblog, and I was drooling to write for it, but... she was also quite the er, flake about it. Always claiming that "our" staff (as far as I knew, this was her and maybe one or two other people on occasion) were going to get together and do things soon, and didn't. I wrote about three articles for it, one of which actually got put online in time and wasn't lost... you get the drift. Kinda wanting to avoid that.

Am also thinking about maybe writing for some other sites as well, if I think of anything that goes with their style, I guess.

Scary moment last night: I had bought some e-books and passed them on to Dave, who then found that he could only open them with my credit card number. I told him he had to enter the name in as "Jennifer D Mylastname." Apparently, he started putting in "Jennifer D Hislastname." Argh.

I added another VSD to the blurty site, C-3P0. Though I have to admit, it's really dull as shit and features lots of whining. Honestly, there just wasn't much I could DO with him. I've taken so long to finish this one (what, a week?) because writing him was like torture. I had to force myself to finish on the train going home the other day.

Oh well, there's much more potential for fun with Artoo and Chewie, coming up next!

I did some tarot readings this weekend regarding my uncertain job situation, and now I'm confused.

I outright asked if I was going to lose my job this year, and I got (Celtic Cross layout:

2. Opposing Forces: Wheel of Fortune- entering a lucky cycle, change for the better (sounds good to me)

3. Foundation: 6 Pentacles R- unfairness in money, prosperity threatened (that's true enough)

4. Past Experiences: Tower R- something that shocked you in the past is coming to an end, face what you're avoiding.

5. What Might Happen: 9 Cups- Wishes fulfilled, happiness.

6. What Will Happen: 4 Cups- Discontent/boredom as you reevaluate life.

7. Fears: 6 Wands- Recognition, goodness.

8. How Others Feel: Hanged Man- surrender to higher wisdom.

9. Positive Feelings About The Question: 8 Swords- restricted action because of indecision, inability to cope with change. (I get this card and The Tower a LOT LOT LOT, big surprise)

10. Final outcome: 10 Cups- happily ever after!

So basically, this reading comes up all sunshine and roses for me. But the more ambiguous/negative stuff worries me.

Then after that, since I am in a 4 of Cups mode at the moment, I tried doing another mission spread. I haven't come out very well with those. I won't get into every card that came up there, but the past and especially present section came up dead on. (Especially with the worries and tightness about money and waiting, and I got a celebration card.)

The future, however...as usual, came out bad. A few positive cards about creation, lots of fear cards with inner strength, and oh joy, the Loss of Job Card, 5 Pentacles.

Crap.

So what the hell does THAT mean?!
