Chaos Attraction

Springtime

2008-04-07, 3:31 p.m.

I love California. It's in the high 60's/low 70's here for the most part and beautifully sunny. (Suck it, everywhere east!)

However, there is the wind. Which is a cold, cold wind. I will be sitting around outside basking in the sun, and then the wind blows up and I'm freezing again. What the hell? This town is filled with various cute little girls lying around in bikinis on lawns in front of the dorms or wherever, I don't know how they stand it. I can't wait until the temperature isn't 40 degrees at night, since figuring out how to dress for days where there's a 20-degree variance in temperature between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. is a pain in the ass.

Yesterday, I went to a pool party. Surprise, surprise. Not something that normally happens around here at this time of year, global warming and girls in bikinis on lawns aside. But I have friends whose complex may not have a heated pool, but it does have a gorgeous spa. So we all went over there and hung out in the hot tub. Yay.

After eventually getting out of the water, we went over to another friend's house (it was a "progressive" party, with snacks at the pool place, kebab dinner down the street, and then dessert at the third house). Incidentally, watching the Food Network while hungry? Not a good idea. We mostly sat around thinking that "Throwdown with Bobby Flay" (how many $@#%#$ shows is this guy on on Food Network, all of them?) is a pretty shitty thing to do to people, and we cheered when the people he challenged did better than he did.

Here's the ironic thing: after the partying (which is to say, during the dessert hour) we were supposed to have a meeting, starting around seven. It was presumed that since we had all been hanging out together for five hours beforehand, we should "get out early" because then we'd Get Down To Business. Ha ha! We didn't even get to having the meeting start until 9:30, and I got home at midnight again (as these meetings are wont to do). Looks like that's how all my Sunday nights are going to be going for the next two months...
