I forgot to mention that Jade is apparently now coming into some money? That chick can manifest shit. Meg said that Stephen is doing better and they are heading to my town now. Her birthday is tomorrow.

In other news, Alameda County (my county of origin) put back a mask mandate and yet apparently people were unaware of this, and my county is still hedging and not doing shit and being all "well, hospitalizations aren't THAT bad...." For fuck's sake. Even though the health officer literally said, ""If people have been waiting to hear public health to say, 'This is the time. There's a lot of virus, please put your mask back on,' that's absolutely what I'm saying today." FFS.

Today was Dawn's surgery day. I picked her and Loretta (keeping me company) up between 9:45-10 and then we dropped her off before her time at 10;45. We were told it was about 2 hours prep time, 1 hour 15 minutes on surgery, 1 hour 30 minutes of recovery time, so theoretically was supposed to be done around 3:30. I told this to Ashley on the phone last night and she was all "LOL yeah right, they are ALWAYS late." Good to know! But hey, no particular reason to care on lateness here.

So Loretta and I did the following:

(1) Went to Michael's, where she got Aida cloth and I got teal yarn for a Spencer jacket and some black yarn for the Encanto blouse, and some tapestry needles and another embroidery hoop.

(2) Went to Joann's, where I got some buttons for the jacket and some rainbow hearts for no good reason, and more blackberry colored yarn (note: really more orchid pink, collecting for a dress), and then tried to figure out how the fuck to put the furry tassel-y(?) trim on the Encanto skirt hem. I do not get what the hell this is. I considered the following:

(a) Getting that loop yarn, cutting the loops open--Loretta and I agreed that probably would just end up shedding and falling apart. (b) Buying trim that was basically light blue...fur...labeled "turkey feathers?" (c) Buying the only teal ribbon trim with tassels out, which was both the wrong color and spaced out funny.

Neither of us really liked any of these options and getting like 3 yards of them was kind of pricey. Finally after putting these things back, I saw some furry yarn that I though, "eh, I could cut this into strips and have it pass," and bought that for $6. We'll see how it works, but it was the best option I could find for this thing.

(3) After that, went to Crossroads Trading Company, where Loretta got pants and I got a lovely black dress with light purple embroidery on it, flowers/butterflies-sort of stuff.

(4) Then we walked the mall, didn't really buy anything there but did look around at the weird stuff stores.

(5) Then went to La Bou for lunch, i.e. the only place that still has outdoor dining, by which I mean like 3 tables and 3 chairs out there by now. Still worked. I was so hungry I ate two lunches--a turkey and cranberry salad and then chinese chicken salad. I also told Loretta the whole theater saga :P

(6) We planned our day to land at the bookstore for the last bit of it to hang out indefinitely until Dawn was ready. Dawn/the hospital signed me up for text updates, which was super useful. FYI:

Supposed start of surgery around 12:40 p.m. Actual start of prep, I guess? 1:40.
Actual surgery start: 2:15.
End of surgery: 3:30, when we were heading to the bookstore.
By 4:15, I got a call from the hospital saying Dawn would be ready to go in about a half hour, so I wound up my book shopping in about 10 minutes and got books, then headed over there. She was actually doing pretty well, made some conversation, gave me directions, and (funniest of all) insisted on showing Loretta and I her most recent crafts before going to bed. I think she'll be fine.

Rae had called a few days ago wanting to go to the local town festival they hold at the park that's about a 15 minute walk from my place and across the street from hers (which she was excited about). I didn't actually leave to go to this until about 6:15, but she never answered the phone or text, and I assume she flaked on going. Whatever. I wandered around picking up free stuff--2 bags, an M&M cookie, a Frisbee, some pens and candy (not as much free stuff as a few years ago, ah well), and then I tried the mango vanilla beer at Sudwerk, which I have been curious about. It was pretty good for beer--still tastes metallicy like all beer does to me, but other than the metal-ness, not bad. I only drank about half of it there (I don't think I wanted THAT much beer), but I did sit around reading and listening to the band, which was playing stuff that was all my jam for awhile.

Then I got tired/had to go to the bathroom/didn't wanna use a Porta-Potty, so I carried my beer home--good thing no one noticed that one, that's probably not legal, right?

Loretta and I had some interesting conversation. She said she'd never been in love, despite having relationships. I was all "didn't you shack up with some?" (and briefly got married and divorced) and she was all "I cared about them, but..." Interesting. I guess that's why she's okay with being single.

I also said I was considering going to Scott's store on Sunday and asked if she wanted to go, and she said yes, So ... there you go there.
