Memento Revisited

2006-07-28, 9:17 a.m.

Never underestimate a relative of mine's ability to go into denial...

Mom called Grandma to see how she was doing. I gather the conversation went something like this:

"I was so sorry to hear about Norman."

"What? What happened to Norman?"

"Well, he passed away."

"NO HE DIDN'T! He couldn't have! He's been sick, but he's fine. What would I do if he passed away?"

The answer appears to be, "I'd forget it ever happened."

Mom eventually said that she was sure Norman was just fine. Then she felt guilty for bursting Grandma's bubble of denial. Then Grandma put her on the phone with someone who worked at the home, who said, "Don't worry, she'll have forgotten all of this in ten minutes." Whee, it's all just like Memento.
